⊹ frequently asked questions ⊹
⊹ Your work explores the interconnectedness of all things. Is there a symbol you return to again and again? What does it represent for you?
I always look for light, both in my life and in my work. It can either be an obvious symbol, such as the Sun or the Moon, or it can be implied. No matter how dark life may seem, there’s always light to be found somewhere.
⊹ You call your art “visual meditations.” Do you have any rituals that help you enter that reflective, creative state?
Drawing itself puts me in the state of flow. I also try to find pockets of stillness throughout the day to feel balanced and relaxed. Nothing kills my creativity more than feeling tired or stressed. I meditate, do yoga or go for a walk in nature to recharge and reconnect with myself. Also, once a week I go on an “artist date” to have some quality time with myself and do something that enchants or inspires me.
⊹ What do you hope someone feels or discovers in themselves when looking at your work?
I hope that my work will bring light into someone’s life and inspire them to look within and deepen their connection to their inner self and the world around them.
⊹ What does "living inspired" mean to you?
To me, living inspired means following my joy. Letting myself explore what interests me without thinking of an end result. Doing something just for the sake of doing it, just because I like it.
⊹ Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from life itself – its magical mysteries that fill me with awe, and leave me stuck for words.
I also love looking at and get inspired by other artists’ work, especially those in other disciplines - writers, interior designers, etc.
⊹ What are your favourite creative books?
Reading is one of my secret ways to get inspired and keep the creative momentum going. Here are some of my favourite books on creativity and creative living: Letters to a Young Poet, Big Magic, The Artist’s Way, Dancing with the Gods, The Creative Act: a way of being, How to Live an Artful Life, Steal Like an Artist and other Austin Kleon’s books.
⊹ What is your favourite quote?
“If everything around seems dark, look again, you may be the light.” Rumi
⊹ What is your favourite colour and why?
Forever and always yellow (ochre, burnt orange, amber). I’ve been drawn to it since I was a child. I don’t know why, I think it just brings me joy. It’s like carrying sunshine in my pocket 🌞
